Teen Nail Camp Club
If you’ve been following along our salon journey, you might know that in July we ran the first teen nail camp club! A group of young nail enthusiasts made their way to the salon for 4 days of learning the basics (and some extra) of nails. Keep reading to learn all about the experience.
Our experience:
The salon became a bustle of teens and energy for the 4-day camp. The kids were eager to learn, and Kim was ready to teach. She didn’t take on the venture alone, though; she partnered with Tammy. Tammy has taught at Canadian Beauty College and originally worked with Kim as a co-op student at the salon. It was a full-circle moment for Kim, being able to teach new faces with a former student of her own. Tammy also runs her own nail business that functions differently from the salon, so the students were able to see that there are many different ways to be successful in the nail industry.

When they were working with the students, they were impressed with their passion and quick learning skills. Kim enjoyed being able to work with people who had no experience—and therefore no bad habits she needed to correct. She was able to mold their journey of learning nails from the very beginning. This was a great way to ensure that if they continue to explore the nail industry in the future, they will have the proper foundation of safety and technique. The student’s passion and excitement for learning nails was clear from the beginning, with one student coming from Mississauga each day. Kim was impressed with the level of support these parents had for the kids involved; bringing them to the camp from far away, watching them support their kid in the camp, and more. It was a moment of community and innovation that Kim looks forward to incorporating into the salon more often.
Our ‘Why”:
If you know Kim, you know she has a knack for inspiring growth in others. One of her biggest strengths is helping others gain knowledge and experience. She wanted to try a new venture where she could showcase these talents even more than she does with the girls at the glam squad. She also noticed that the nail industry has been booming, especially with online tips and tricks from social media being found everywhere. She came up with this idea because she wanted to make sure that if teens were interested in doing nails, they got the correct information from trained professionals, and then she was able to teach and watch her students grow. It went so well that another group of students will be participating in her August camp!
That’s all, folks! Check back next month for more exciting nail info!
