Fashion week experience!

The girls of the glam squad took on a new and exciting challenge this April and collaborated with Hamilton Fashion Week. Each nail tech from our team picked a look from designer Ostentatious and created a matching, unique set of nails for the models to wear. Read more to learn about the inspiration and experience.

Our experience:

The first reaction to the project was nervous excitement. The girls were excited to be creative and come up with matching nails for fashion looks, but that was just step one. As the day got closer, nerves started to rise as we considered all the different aspects to make the day go smoothly. Some of the models came in to the salon, but a few of our nail technicians also worked behind the scenes of the show to apply their pre-made press-ons.

They had to ensure that the nails were secure enough that the models could easily lift their dresses without losing a nail while working in an improvised space. The evening went off without a hitch, though, and the nails, outfits, and models all looked amazing.

The environment of the show was inspiring and exciting to be a part of. We noticed the sense of community present in the show. Some of the team (hairstylists and models) had their daughters helping out with aspects of the show, and it was a supportive environment to be a part of. One of the techs helping backstage, Maddy, said it was like working in a real-life Barbie house.

Kim really enjoyed watching the team collectively be a part of something that celebrated passion and creativity. She loved being a part of the chaotic and busy backstage scene with designers and models all focused and thriving in their element.

She also got to connect with so many people and artists who were passionate about their work. Photographers, designers, make-up artists, and so many more dedicated people went into making the event happen, each with their own passion and vision, and we are grateful to have been a part of that. Being able to connect with other creative people sparked creativity in our team. Phung was excited to take photos and videos for the event, and she did a fantastic job. Maddy carried conversations well past the point when everyone else’s social battery had run out, and every member of our team stepped up with their nail designs.

Our ‘Why”:

You might be wondering what sparked this collaboration. Kim shared her motivation to become a part of fashion week. It can be easy to get wrapped up in the same day-to-day cycle, and we believe seeking new experiences breaks up the monotony we can find ourselves in. The goal was to be a part of something new that would challenge us and move us towards fresh ideas and growth. Building community with other creatives and local people passionate about pursuing their goals inspires us to passionately pursue our own interests and techniques. Kim is also always looking for new experiences in the city, and we hope to do more events and projects like this soon!

That’s all, folks! Check back next month for more exciting nail info!
